Ronell Wilson, the man who killed two undercover police officers in 2003, will formally be sentenced to death at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn today.

Wilson, 31, was convicted in 2007 and sentenced to death for the murder of officers Rodney Andrews and James Nemorin on Staten Island as they posed as illegal gun buyers, but the 2nd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals overturned the sentence in 2010 due to prosecutorial errors.

In July, a jury in New York sentenced him to death after deliberating for only a few hours following a monthlong trial.

He faces death by lethal injection, pending another appeals process.

Wilson also made news last winter after federal authorities arrested a female corrections officer from the Brooklyn detention center where he was being held and charged her with having sex with him. She gave birth to their son in March and pleaded guilty in July.

Tuesday’s sentencing will take place in the courthouse’s ceremonial courtroom at 2 p.m.

Wilson will be given the chance to speak before the mandatory sentence is handed down. He will be transported to Terre Haute, Ind., to await execution.
